Reflect: “How I can support adolescents in their quest to become independent young adults and productive citizens.”

I have always believed in a “lead by example” role modeling system, when it comes to my interactions with students I am teaching/tutoring.

How can I support adolescents in their “quest” to become independent young adults and productive citizens? I believe that through my specific area of focus within the education profession, I can help inspire students to have a reliable emotional outlet for them to carry with them on this quest. This is not the only thing I can and will be doing, for example I can be imparting knowledge on how to approach situations in life, however I believe that music is a healthy way to unplug yourself from your life’s circumstances. In other words, whether you are listening or performing or practicing or even observing, I believe that it is the conductor/teacher’s job to help people strengthen their emotional relationship with “music,” whether be a piece or an instrument.
I am of the opinion that this relationship with music, when established at an adolescent age, will serve as an escape from life for students, being a healthier option as opposed to common sources of these days (i.e. abuse of alcohol).

So how can I support adolescents on this quest? I can help foster a positive relationship with music so that they hopefully can have this in their toolbelt down the road when they need an outlet from life
